Insomnia
What is it?
Insomnia is sleeplessness. There are two types of sleep: orthodox sleep and, rapid eye movement during which dreaming occurs. Both types of sleep are necessary to feel refreshed next morning. Lack of sleep causes irritability, inefficiency and inability to concentrate. Some insomnia sufferers become so wound up that they cannot relax enough to sleep. Insomnia may be a symptom of depression.
Symptoms:
Sleeplessness.
Conventional Practice:
Doctors can treat some forms of depression by prescribing antidepressant drugs to relieve insomnia. Sleeping pills may be effective in breaking a vicious cycle of sleeplessness and overtiredness.
