What is it?
Palpitations may sometimes be a sign of heart disease. There are three main types of palpitations: rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat and extra heartbeat. If prolonged or persistent palpitation, see a doctor before taking any alternative therapy. Rapid heartbeat can be a sign of an overactive thyroid gland. Caffeine and coffee sometimes cause rapid heartbeat. Irregular heartbeat accompanied by irregular pulse is common in elderly people. It can also be caused by alcoholism, thyroid disorders or disease of the heart valves. Extra heartbeat affects everyone at times. An excessive number of extra heartbeats may be caused by anxiety or may be a symptom of a heart disorder.
Rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, extra heartbeat.
Conventional Practice:
Most cases of palpitations can be relieved by cutting down on consumption of non-decaffeinated coffee and alcohol. If another cause is suspected, a doctor will take a patient’s pulse and blood pressure. He will arrange for an electrocardiogram (ECG) to be taken to determine if there is any heart disorder.
Alternative Treatments:
Therapeutic massage has grown into the art of creating and maintaining the best possible health for its devotees. It does this by relaxing, stimulating and invigorating mind and body. More Info
