Parkinson’s Disease
What is it?
Parkinson’s disease is caused by the degeneration of the ganglia – groups of nerve cell bodies – and shortage of dopamine, a substance which is thought to be a transmitter of nerve impulses. Muscular stiffness, slowness and difficulty in moving about are among the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. The symptoms become progressively worst. The muscles of the face stiffen. Walking becomes increasingly slow and difficult and patient’s often suffer from depression.
Symptoms:
Muscle stiffness, slowness and difficulty in moving about, stiff face muscles, walking difficulty and depression.
Conventional Practice:
If you suspect Parkinson’s disease which can develop gradually, consult your doctor. The doctor may prescribe drugs as a substitute for the brain’s dopamine deficiency or anticholinergic drugs to reduce tremor and muscle stiffness.
