Phobias
What is it?
Intense, irrational fears are called phobias. Among the most common phobia are agoraphobia, the fear of being in open spaces and claustrophobia, the fear of being in confined, or crowded places. A fear of illness prevents some sufferers from visiting a doctor. In extreme cases, some phobias can drive people to suicide.
Symptoms:
Fear of open spaces, fear of public places, fear of crowded places, fear of illness, fear of being in confined places.
Conventional Practice:
Some doctors recommend psychotherapy or behavioural therapy rather than prescribe tranquilizers which give rapid short term relief but which can prove addictive.
