Asthma
What is it?
Attacks of asthma occur when inflammation or muscular spasm causes the bronchial passages of the lungs to contract, making breathing difficult and causing a wheezing sound as the breath is exhaled. Other symptoms may include coughing, going blue in the face. While most attacks last just a few minutes, serious bouts may go on for hours and must always be treated by a doctor. Asthma is usually due to several interacting inherited or environmental factors such as allergy- to animal hair, feathers, climate and temperature. Asthma that runs in families tends to start in childhood and is sometime associated with eczema or hay fever. Among adults, asthma sometimes develops after recurrent chest infections.
Symptoms:
Inflammation of bronchial passage, wheezing, breathing difficulty.
Conventional Practice:
Doctors recognise that allergies can play a part in causing asthma and so a doctor may offer allergy test. Asthma itself is controlled mainly by cortisone and other drugs. Antibiotics are used if the case involves a chest infection.
Alternative Treatments:
  Acupuncture
An ancient Chinese therapy, patients are treated by sticking needles into their skin at particular points. These acupuncture points lie along invisible energy channels called meridians. The needles are said to unblock a flow of energy (called Qi) through the meridians. More Info

  Herbal Medicine
The medicinal use of herbs is said to be as old as mankind itself. Tribes still use their traditional knowledge of plant and their healing properties passed on from generation to generation. The armies of slave workers who laboured to build the Egyptian pyramids took a daily ration of garlic to ward off the pestilential fevers and infections that were rife at the time. More Info

Osteopathy aims to diagnose and treat medical problems in the framework. These problems may be caused by injury or stress.   Reflexology
Reflexologists treat diseases in parts of the body they claim to be related to reflex areas. It is thought that illness occurs when energy channels in the body are blocked, causing damage to one area or another. Massage is aimed at destroying these blocks, allowing the energy to flow freely again and so heal the damage. More Info
  Yoga
Yoga is a system of spiritual, mental and physical training. YogaпїЅs underlining philosophy stresses the influence of mind over body, and holds that mental and spiritual development are necessary to reinforce the benefits that the physical exercises can bring. More Info
