Arthritis
What is it?
There are different types of arthritis, all involving some disorder or inflammation of the joints. The most common forms are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout caused by crystals of a body waste, uric acid, collecting in the sufferers joints. Osteoarthritis causes swelling pain or stiffness and sometimes deforms the joint. The parts most affected are the hips, knee spine and hands. Women are more at risk than men. Rheumatoid arthritis also affects more women than men. Symptoms include swelling, stiffness and pain in the joints; red, shiny skin over the joints and general feeling of stiffness and restricted movement. Always see your doctor if you suspect that you may have arthritis.

Conventional Practice:
Doctors have made comparison test of, acupuncture and conventional treatments for arthritic pain in joints such as the knee, back and shoulder, and have found it to be as effective as claimed. Doctors can only treat the symptoms. Drugs are prescribed to relieve pain and swelling, and physiotherapy is often recommended to keep the joints flexible and strengthen weak muscles. In severe cases, arthritic joints can often be replaced with artificial ones.

Osteopaths believe that when the structure of the body is sound, it will work just like a well-tuned engine.   Aromatherapy

  Acupuncture
  An ancient Chinese therapy, patients are treated by sticking needles into their skin at particular points. These acupuncture points lie along invisible energy channels called meridians. The needles are said to unblock a flow of energy (called Qi) through the meridians. More Info
  Acupressure
  Acupressure is a mixture of massage and acupuncture, and is thought to be the forerunner of acupuncture. Instead of inserting needles, practitioners use firm thumb or fingertip massage on pain relieving pressure points.
