What is it?
The pharyngeal tonsil, is a small pad of tissue at the back of the nose. The tonsil can suffer in its battle against infection or allergy. It can become enlarged or inflamed. When an infection persists, or the pharyngeal tonsil has to deal with repeated infections, it can become chronically enlarged, causing breathing problems, commonly called adenoids. Most cases of adenoids are in children aged between five and seven. The child breathes through the mouth and snores as the flow of air from the nose to the throat is blocked by swollen tissues.
Enlarged pharyngeal tonsil at the back of the nose, inflamed tonsil, breathing problems.
Conventional Practice:
Doctors feel that vitamins and mineral food supplements may act simply as a placebo. Most cases of Adenoids would be left untreated. When the childs body overcomes the infection, the swollen tissues shrinks and the symptoms disappear. Severe infections are treated with antibiotics. Occasionally surgery may be decided on.
