What is it?
Snoring was regarded as a social nuisance rather than a medical problem. Sometimes,it can be a symptom of ‘sleep apnoea’, in which someone stops breathing when asleep. As a result, the body is deprived of oxygen and it produces too much adrenaline. In turn, this can lead to high blood pressure and increase the risk of angina and other heart disorders. Other causes of snoring are obesity, alcohol abuse, smoking and lack of exercise.
Although there is no specific remedy for sleep apnoea, doctors will give general advice. If obesity or smoking is making you snore, it will help if you lose weight and cut down on or stop smoking and do not drink large amounts of alcohol in the evenings.
