Addiction
What is it?
A cycle of dependence. Addiction has become a part of everyday life. Smoking, alcoholic drinks, tranquillisers, Coffee. The underlying cause is often a problem or situation in life which they cannot face or escape from, social pressure to conform, or simply a wish to experiment, out of curiosity. As the body gets accustomed to the stimulation induced by the substance, more and more of it is needed to get the same effect. Addiction is a dependence on a substance which alters the body chemistry and so changes the user’s moods. Illegal drugs such as cannabis, cocaine, crack, acid and heroin all do this.

Conventional Practice:
Many people are reluctant to talk to their doctor about these problems. Addicts should seek counselling and support from self-help organisations such as Alcoholics Anonymous.
Alternative Treatments:
  Acupuncture
  An ancient Chinese therapy, patients are treated by sticking needles into their skin at particular points. These acupuncture points lie along invisible energy channels called meridians. The needles are said to unblock a flow of energy (called Qi) through the meridians. More Info
