What is it?
Asthma, hay fever and eczema are caused by allergies. They erupt when your body reacts to something it is abnormally sensetive to; pollen, house dust, animal fur: foods such as shellfish, eggs or chocolates. If you are allergic, eating, breathing in or simply touching even tiny amounts of an allergin will cause your body to defend itself by releasing substances known as antibodies, designed to neutralise allergens. Foods can bring on an allergic response, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Some young babies suffer wind, constipation and diarrhoea because they are allergic to milk protein and they develop asthma and eczema later in life. Some children are affected by food additives, leading to hyperactivity and behaviour problems.
