Dysentery
What is it?
There are two forms: bacterial dysentery and amoebic dysentery. The disease is spread by poor hygiene, infected food and contaminated water. Symptoms include fever, frequent bowel movements, griping stomach pains, wind and vomiting. Bacterial dysentery sometimes occur in epidemics in schools. Amoebic dysentery contracted in tropical countries and often accompanied by blood, mucous or pus in the stool, should always be treated by a doctor.
Symptoms:
Frequent bowel movements, griping stomach pains, vomiting and wind, fever, blood in stools.
Conventional Practice:
For bacterial dysentery, a doctor will simply recommend a liquid diet and rest. Amoebic dysentery will call for antibiotics.
