Gallstones
What is it?
Small hard, pebbles form from liquid bile in the gall bladder. Sometimes a stone gets stuck in a duct and causes biliary colic. If the gall bladder becomes inflamed, fever with pain in the upper abdomen and tenderness under the ribs may result. Occasionally gallstones block the flow of fluids from the pancreas, causing inflammation and pain. Warning Gallstones are only one of many possible causes of severe abdominal pain. If pain persists for more than four hours, consult your doctor immediately.
Symptoms:
Abdominal pain, fever, biliary colic and inflamed bladder.
Conventional Practice:
Stones that do cause pain or inflammation are removed surgically, together with the gall bladder. Occasionally small stones can be dissolved by drugs or by sound waves.
Alternative Treatments:
  Acupuncture
An ancient Chinese therapy, patients are treated by sticking needles into their skin at particular points. These acupuncture points lie along invisible energy channels called meridians. The needles are said to unblock a flow of energy (called Qi) through the meridians. More Info
  Herbal Medicine
The medicinal use of herbs is said to be as old as mankind itself. Tribes still use their traditional knowledge of plant and their healing properties passed on from generation to generation. The armies of slave workers who laboured to build the Egyptian pyramids took a daily ration of garlic to ward off the pestilential fevers and infections that were rife at the time. More Info
