Infertility
What is it?
Some women naturally take longer to conceive than others, so infertility is not diagnosed until a couple have been having regular unprotected sexual intercourse for over a year. Causes can be smoking, drinking too much alcohol, illness and strenous exercises by women as well as more specific physical disorders. Worry, stress and anxiety can also make things worst. Infertility occurs because the woman ovulate infrequently or not at all. The cause can be hormonal imbalance, a problem affecting the ovaries, or sudden weight loss. If too little progesterone is produced by a woman’s body, the embryo cannot implant itself in the womb. If uterine tubes are blocked, conception is prevented as sperms are unable to reach the egg. Endometriosis, where pieces of the womb lining begin to grow around the ovaries or the uterine tubes, may also prevent conception. Abnormality of the womb can prevent the fertilised egg from implanting itself in the womb. The most common problem are fibroids or an abnormally-shaped womb. On the other hand, some men have a low sperm count or produce abnormal sperm which cannot fertilise an egg. Causes include illnesses such as mumps, varicose veins near the testicles, obesity, allowing the testicles to get hot. In other cases, stress or hormonal imbalances affect sperm productions.
Symptoms:
Inability to conceive, fibroids, womb abnormality.
Conventional Practice:
A doctor will begin tests to investigage the causes. Most of these can be treated by drugs, artificial hormones, surgery or special techiniques.
Alternative Treatments:
  Acupuncture
An ancient Chinese therapy, patients are treated by sticking needles into their skin at particular points. These acupuncture points lie along invisible energy channels called meridians. The needles are said to unblock a flow of energy (called Qi) through the meridians. More Info
