Moxibustion is a way of applying heat locally to regulate; tone and supplement of the bodys flow of Qi (vital energy), and has been found especially useful for relieving post-operative pain and for conditions such as arthritis.
There are two methods of Moxibustion. In the heated needle method, the practitioner inserts acupuncture needles, then places small cones of moxa on the needle heads and ignites them. The gentle heat so generated passes down the needles into the body. In the other method, the therapist fills a roll of paper with moxa, lights it, holds the glowing tip safely above the acupuncture point until it becomes too hot and then withdraws it.
