These three simple yoga poses are a simple yet powerful way to practice self-love today. When we talk about self-love, it is about learning to love ourselves by being loving to ourselves. We tend to go through life and run around doing things for other people and people around us, out of fear of not being liked or accepted or being alone. We need to realize that we are not stupid and we are not alone. We can be the person we want to be and we don’t need to change anyone except ourselves.
Self-love is something that is important to cultivate in all of us. It seems like self-love is growing in popularity, but why? It’s easy to focus on the negative aspects of ourselves, and, as a result, we forgot to give ourselves the love that we truly deserve. Yoga has been a tradition that has been used to help people focus less on the here-and-now and to encourage a positive outlook on the self.
It’s Valentine’s day! And if you’re like most people, this means you’ve been getting a lot of messages from friends, family, and co-workers and you’re probably stressed out. You’ve tried to decline all the invites to attend events, but that’s just not possible. And that’s why I’m bringing you three yoga poses that will help you meet your Valentine’s Day commitments and still give yourself the self-care you need.Whether you’re dating for Valentine’s Day, have a steady partner or are single, this romantic holiday is a great reminder to give yourself some extra attention and love.
Spend ten minutes with yourself, softening, testing and opening your heart with these three intimate postures.
1. Simple sitting meditation

Start with a simple sitting position with your legs crossed and resting on a blanket or pillow. Lower the inner groin into the ground and lift the sternum slightly, stretching the tailbone downward.
Gently close your eyes and focus your attention on the outer edges of your feet and the bones of your seat. Deepen your breathing.
Bring one hand to your lower abdomen and place the other hand lightly on your heart center. Breathe deeply into the space under your arms 10 times – expand as you inhale and soften as you exhale.
2. Installation with lanyard
The Yaw posture is a somewhat intense hip opening and is ideal for practicing self-compassion by diving into yourself and deepening your breath. It’s like a full body hug.
Lay yourself on a pillow or blanket (or not if you have narrow hips) and cross one leg completely over the other until your knees are touching and your feet are on the outside of the opposite thigh. Make sure both bones of the seated person are evenly fused.
Inhale and extend your arms above your head, lengthening your upper body; exhale and bend your knees, keeping your arms by your sides. Take 8-10 deep breaths, relax the outside of the hips and relax the spine.
3. Heroic support with slope
Hero Reclining is a particularly voluptuous pose that reveals and stretches the entire front of the body, releasing tension deep in the hips. If you make the posture more restful (for example, by supporting it with a bolster or blanket), the chest passively expands, which helps to open the heart space.
Starting with Virasana (Hero’s Pose), lie on your back on a bolster or some folded blankets and let your arms extend to your sides. If it’s too heavy, sit on a blanket or block and support the other end of the bolster with a block or several pillows, creating a slope.
Relax as much as you can in the chair, gently close your eyes and breathe, staying as long as you feel comfortable. If you want to use the mantra to calm your mind, say inner allow as you inhale into heart space and remove as you exhale.
