You absolutely must try this halibut dish with lemon capers, which tastes like a dish from a fancy restaurant, but is very easy to make at home in your kitchen! Sometimes I dread cooking fish at home because I think it will fail, but this idea is so delicious, savory and overall a real winner. You have to try this!

An easy one pan dish, perfect for any day of the week!

You get a light, crispy piece of fish with a lemon and caper sauce that is full of flavor and incredibly delicious! This dish looks like you’ve been in the kitchen all day, but the simple three-part process makes it an easy dish that’s ready fairly quickly.

During cooking, the fish will brown on all sides and a butter sauce will form. Then just cook the fish and pour the sauce over it right before serving. Yummy!

Tips for making this delicious breaded halibut

  • Can’t find any capers or don’t feel like going to the supermarket? Try slicing green olives instead. They would also be delicious in this dish.
  • I use a large (12 inch) cast iron skillet for this dish and I love that it browns so nicely – it browns so well. I also like to use this metal spatula to flip the fish, because it’s strong enough to catch all the golden bits.

Fried halibut with lemon capers

Flaky halibut served with a lemon, garlic and caper sauce!

  • 4-6 oz Heilbuttsteaks, gehäutet
  • a pinch of salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/3 of butter
  • 1/2 lemon juice
  • 3 cloves of fresh garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 2 slices of lemon cut in half
  • 3 Esslöffel Kapern mit Flüssigkeit
  • 1/3 cup Gemüsebrühe

Heat a skillet on the stove over medium-high heat with olive oil. Pat the fish dry with a kitchen towel and sprinkle both sides with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Add the fish to the pan and fry lightly on all sides, about 2-3 minutes total. Remove the fish from the pan and set aside.

Add the butter and melt it in the same pan. Then add the garlic, fresh parsley, capers and lemon juice. Add the capers and garlic to the pan and scrape the bottom a few times with a spatula.

Add the lemon slices to the pan and let them brown for a minute. Pour in the vegetable stock, bring to the boil and reduce the heat for a few more minutes.

Return the fish to the pan and cook until crisp. A good internal temperature for halibut is 145 degrees. Carefully tilt the pan forward so that the sauce collects in one area, and pour it over the fish.

Arrange the fish on plates and serve hot. Have fun!

This is honestly one of my favorite seafood dishes!

The combination of capers, butter and lemon is so delicious, and this fish is so light and mild in flavor. I want it to be crispy on the edges and crunchy and tender in the middle.

That night I served pan-fried halibut with my favorite keto broccoli salad, and all in all it was a great meal!
