I have to admit that I have not tried the real thing yet, but I know that the McDonald’s Sausage McGriddle Breakfast Sandwich is a popular favorite on the breakfast menu that has been around since the 1990’s. This recipe is a copycat recipe of sorts, but instead of using sausage it has sausage gravy and an egg. Be sure to use a quality sausage, such as Applegate Farms Italian Sausage, as buying high-end sausage will often make a difference.

Following a keto lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to forgo delicious breakfast options on the go! Although I love to make scrambled eggs with bacon, I often crave something different in the morning, like this McGriddle sandwich that I can make at home.

This McGriddle Sausage Keto Breakfast Sandwich tastes almost identical to McDonald’s famous McGriddle, but without most of the sodium and carbs! My keto version of this sandwich has 14 grams of total carbs and 4.7 grams of net carbs, while a regular McGriddle sandwich has 44 carbs! What a difference!

Tips for making the best keto skyscraper recipe:

  • Since there is more pancake batter than I need for one sandwich, I usually make 4-5 sandwiches from one batch and freeze them for the next week.
  • You can also make this Keto McGriddle with bacon, ham or just spinach and mushrooms if you are vegetarian.
  • I like to use a slice of sausage on my McGriddle. I used fresh minced sausage for the cutlets, but to save time, you can buy pre-made sausage cutlets at the grocery store.

McGriddle Keto Sausage Breakfast Sandwich

This breakfast sandwich of eggs, cheese and sausage with sweet rolls is similar to McDonald’s ….. but much better and low in carbs!

For the maple buns :

For the portion of egg and meat (1 of each ingredient is added to the rolls) :

  • 5 hard boiled eggs
  • 5 sausage patties
  • 5 slices provolone cheese


Place all ingredients for the maple buns in a large bowl and mix together.


Put 2 tablespoons of pancake batter in the mini waffle iron and bake for 2 minutes.


Prepare the egg and sausage as usual. Put a hard-boiled egg, a sausage and a slice of cheese on the sandwich.


Eat fresh or wrap in cling film, place in a freezer bag and freeze until use. When done, remove the cling film and heat in the microwave for 30-40 seconds. You can also heat them up in a deep fryer.

If you prefer to just make a sandwich using this recipe and omit the sausage, egg and cheese in the middle, go ahead! Here are the nutritional values for the sandwich alone:

My favorite dish on the entire McDonald’s menu is the McGriddles! I remember they first added those when I was in high school. I ate there almost every morning. I also remember reading that it contained more carbs and sugar than the rest of the menu. Maple flavor in a pancake bun is the best, and this recipe recreates it in perfect keto fashion. I have frozen a few and plan to add them to my usual Sunday ration. You must try this recipe!
