When I am in a good mood, I think that the best way to stay healthy is to get out and walk, and that movies can be useful tools to help me do that.  So, when I was asked to come up with a list of my five favorite movies for yoga and meditation, I thought that I would share them with you, too. Here they are: 1. Yoga Hosers 2. Yoga Mind and Body 3. Yoga Hosers (again) 4. Into the Blue 5. Before We Vanish

My 5 All-Time Favorite Yoga and Meditation Movies |

Yoga and meditation have become more popular in recent years as the appeal of these practices have been recognized by the general public. From the casual indoor yoga class to the more intense and deep meditation techniques, there is a broad range of yoga and meditation classes and programs to choose from. The goal is to write an intro paragraph for a blog post titled “How to Find and Start Yoga Classes in Your City” on a (Health) blog called “A Healthier Way of Living”, that is described as “In today’s crowded cities, finding a yoga class can be difficult. Are there yoga classes close to you? If you are a yoga novice, it’s easy to forget that there may be plenty of classes nearby that you can take every day.

There are so many movies about yoga and enlightenment, but few are as good as Gurus. There are a number of self-appointed teachers and gurus out there, but finding one who is truly genuine, deep and loving is a challenge in itself. Basically, it’s only performed when there’s no search.

When I was still living in Berlin, I watched one movie after another until I finally saw the most famous, the most unknown and whatever else I happened to find on YouTube, in the top 5 yoga movie lists and on the recommendation of friends. I can’t remember the name of some of them, the title of some of them….. but not the contents.

There are many films with the same title that give the same insight into asanas, yoga studios and some ancient yogis in between. So many of the films I’ve seen have gone defunct, but here are a few I remember that somehow impressed me.

I’ve seen most of them several times, because I think that’s the point of a good movie – you watch it over and over again and find something new each time. Here are my top yoga and meditation movies.

1. Kumare (2011)

A documentary about a young man who poses as a wise Native American guru and wins admirers in Arizona, until a revelation changes the course of history. Funny, intelligent and descriptive.

2. Nobody’s Ride to Nowhere (2012)

Nobody’s Trip to Nowhere is a beautiful film about gurus, places, meditation and the importance of yoga in India. It’s half documentary, half road movie.

3. What we know (2004)

Loans : MoviePoster.com

An absolute classic from Dr. Joe Dispenza. Amanda, a divorced photographer, learns to let go of her mental (negative) images of life and eventually sees everything around her unfold positively when she focuses on the vibration of love. Material on the law of attraction.

4. Living Yoga (2008)

Living Yoga tells the story of the birth of the modern yoga movement in the West. Swami Satchidananda, founder of Integral Yoga® and Yogaville, brought a unique blend of yoga, spiritual philosophy and interfaith ideals to America in 1966. The applications of yoga in health, conservation, education, and the arts are highlighted in interviews with leaders in these fields, including Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Larry King, artist Peter Max, Felix Cavalier (The Rascals), and others.

5. Spending time with Vipassana (2013)

An independent Israeli documentary produced by two directors, Ayelet Menachemi and Eilona Ariel, about the application of Vipassana meditation according to the method of S.N. Goenka in one of the largest and toughest prisons in India.

The prison then became an official Vipassana center. The film shows the use of Vipassana as a rehabilitation method and its life-changing effect on foreign and Indian prisoners in the harsh conditions of one of the world’s toughest prisons.
