Yoga is one of the world’s most popular fitness practices, but it’s also one of the most expensive. Why? The answer is no surprise: it’s complicated.
What is the most expensive yoga class? (Yes, yoga is expensive. That’s why we’re writing this blog post—to help you save money at the yogis) There are a few that have a strict monthly membership, but most are very expensive. An average class costs between $20 – $50 per month. And, if you’ve watched the news recently, you’ve probably seen a lot of crazy yoga studios opening up all around the country. What’s being billed as “the next Silicon Valley” may be a spot that you can’t afford to go to—yet.
Yoga is an ancient practice that has been around for a long time, but today it has become a multi-million dollar industry. Yoga studios are popping up on every corner. Some are super cheap, some are way too expensive, some of us may have signed up for the free trial, and some of us have probably ended up paying a big monthly fee. There are literally hundreds of different practices, the one we chose is the one we like. Like any other field, there is a huge selection of products, and prices vary wildly.. It’s something we’ve all heard and seen. Yoga is ridiculously costly when compared to most other forms of exercise or physical training. This, in my view, is attributable to a number of factors.
1. To be quite honest, yoga is not cheap.
Teaching yoga requires a significant financial and time commitment. We invest a lot of money as instructors to get the information we need to deliver enjoyable, safe, and innovative courses.
To study the anatomy of the body, injury corrections, sequencing, the business of yoga, and years of real teaching to polish our skill and discover our own voice and style, it takes hundreds of hours (a conservative estimate).
When you attend a yoga class, you’re (ideally) learning from someone who understands what they’re doing. Our training is continuous and always developing, therefore it does not end after the first certification period of two months.
We must refresh and upgrade our credentials on a regular basis, whether via weekend courses or other forms of continuous education. Don’t get me wrong: this is a labor of love on my part. However, maintaining this affection is expensive.
2. Yoga is now very popular.
Beautiful bodies twisted into impossible-looking yet gorgeous positions abound on Pinterest. Stretchy pants and colorful hoodies are the only wardrobe necessities for every event, according to Lululemon.
I’m willing to wager that if you ask any celebrity how they keep balance in their lives, they’ll mention yoga somewhere. You can bet your asana that costs will not go down as long as the spotlight shines here.
The higher costs will remain, especially in large cities where demand is very strong and the most popular, fashionable yoga sessions are given by similarly popular, hot, brilliant instructors.
3. It is very beneficial to the body (and mind).
Yoga’s physical practice soon transforms into much more for many individuals. It becomes their hour away from duties and responsibilities, the time they need to unwind after a long day, and often even greater treatment than the most expensive therapist can provide!
It’s when you realize that you can be vulnerable and be yourself in your quietness. I think $15 would seem like a lot better bargain if someone promised you all that!
But there’s a mystery that we may be overlooking.
Yoga’s astronomical cost is a misconception. Yoga is a completely free activity. Yoga may be done in your pajamas in your living room, at a park on a beautiful day, at the gym with a buddy, or just about anyplace else. Don’t allow the $12-$25 cost of a single yoga session be an excuse for not doing something that makes you happy.
I have a problem with this one. I like to shop. I think that if you like to shop it’s a good thing. It’s a perfect way to spend time, I find. I’ve done a lot of shopping this year. I’ve spent a lot of time looking at clothes, shoes, books, music, and food.. Read more about benefits of yoga for men and let us know what you think.
